like. ok. sakura as a character starts out as obviously working really hard to perform femininity. inner sakura shows her more aggressive and imo genuine side which isnt… cute and girly, like how she tries to act in front of authority figures (kakashi) and people she admires (sasuke). she literally spends so much time sizing herself down to fit into this version of herself that she thinks she’s supposed to.

and the scene where she cuts off her hair is so so symbolic because it represents her starting to move away from that! she doesn’t have long delicately cared for hair anymore - it’s messy and dissheveled and so much part of her growth as a ninja. after that we see so much growth in her and acceptance of her rougher sides.

a lot of this got… sidelined in shippuden imo but she’s still a rough and tumble girl and she kept her hair short and all over the place. her main fighting style is fucking shattering the ground with her bare fist. and i hate the way her new design smooths her out and pretties her up. Let Sakura Be Rowdy

and the thing that rly grinds my gears is that people criticize her early character for trying to conform to the societal standards set for women!!!!!!! misogyny everywhere

kishi’s portrayal of these standards is critical of them, what with the flower arranging classes ino and sakura were in being mocked by ino using the flowers as weapons. and sakura’s growth defying the standards she felt she had to meet. people call kishi sexist when his writing proves he’s often actually being quite critical of sexist standards.

i see her new design as her owning how hot she is, considering she keeps her hair short aside from when she’s a new mother, when it makes more sense for her to be more in touch with that femininity, but the second time around it’s to make herself happy in a healthy way.

Let Sakura Be Rowdy

“did u even read the post” excuse me? did you even read mine? i was agreeing with you, except for the part about her redesign. there is nothing wrong with Sakura being in touch with her femininity in a healthy way later in life. don’t know why you’re being rude and condescending when u clearly didn’t even pay attention to what i said

fine, i can be more clear for you. implying that she should act more like a man and never like a woman isn’t feminist at all.

my original post was entirely about her being allowed to disconnect from femininity because feminine standards are often restrictive and painful for women and how that was a point of healthy growth for her dfgkdfgkjd as a gender non-conforming lesbian i really do not care about how hard it is for women to be feminine

when sakura’s rough and aggressive and unkempt she doesnt “act like a man” she acts like sakura

i’m fully aware that your original point was that it was good for her to disconnect from feminine standards, and i agreed. that’s why i said that her being in touch with femininity in a healthy way that has nothing to do with standards later in life is also good. and what? you don’t care how hard it is for women to be feminine? i feel like that’s really bad wording for trying to say you think women shouldn’t have to act feminine.

and fine, yes, she’s not acting like a man, she’s acting like herself. growing her hair out again as an early mother and wearing a belly shirt and heels that she can clearly still fight in also isn’t her conforming to feminist standards, it’s her being herself. there is nothing wrong with her also having a “softer” side and wanting to look hot for herself.

Sakura is both feminine and rowdy, when she wants to. Her fighting style is supposed to contrast that.

no sorry she’s just rowdy

i, for one, am so happy that butch sakura is canon

fuck dude me too

those comments are really giving sakura credit for embracing femininity and REALLY ignoring the fact that she isn’t sentient. she’s a fictional character designed by men. and men taking a woman character and making her soft and feminine will never be progressive

that last sentence just had me sitting here and staring at my screen in disbelief for a minute or two.

So female characters created by men aren’t allowed to be feminine, or even both feminine, soft, and strong and ‘rowdy’ because…?
I can see a lot of self inserting here and actually opressive comments towards women who are both soft and hard/strong/rowdy/whateveryouwannacallit.

“men taking a woman character and making her soft and feminine will never be progressive” ok so now male authors are only allowed to write “butch” women as you call it? males writing soft and caring females automatically means they’re oppressing women? sorry but that is just really naive and plain stupid
