This is my favorite hug between them. =) It shows how far the appreciation they feel for each other has come since they’ve met–they’ve been through so much together and have built themselves a strong and unbreakable bond that is more than romance and more than just platonic love. They care about each other. Mako’s reaction is great, but Korra’s reaction when she pulls away is great, too–they both mutually express their feelings without having to say anything at all. Mako wasn’t expecting a hug like this from Korra because he’s probably still navigating his way out of the awkward post-breakup stage, but in this moment and what they’re about to do to save the airbenders, it doesn’t matter. They both just want each other to be okay.
